Tradition holds that Sacred Heart owes its origins to the devotion of an Irishman, Patrick McEntee who came to Texas in 1874. Services were held at his home before the church was built.
Sacred Heart Church, was built in 1899 and dedicated in 1900 by Bishop Dunne.
During his sixteen years as bishop in Dallas, the number of churches increased from 28 to 90, and the Catholic population tripled in size.
By the late 1980’s the Parish population has outgrown the original church, and a new property was purchased at 3905 Hickox Road. Today's sanctuary along with offices and classrooms were constructed in 1992.
In 1995, the church was relocated from Main Street in downtown Rowlett to our Hickox Road property.
In 2020, the church was moved a few hundred feet to provide space for the construction of a larger sanctuary in the near future.
